Answers to the things people ask most. If yours isn't here, email me — it's a one-person app and I read everything.
Email scacchione2008@gmail.com. Include your iPhone model and iOS version if something isn't working. I usually get back within a couple of days.
Using the app
My apps aren't locking during a set.
First check Settings → Screen Time access inside LiftLock is still granted. If it is, the usual cause is another Screen Time app — Opal, Freedom, one of the others — holding its own active restrictions at the same time. iOS lets only one app's exception list win, so the other app's rules can override LiftLock's. Turn off that app's Screen Time permission in iOS Settings → Screen Time → Apps with Screen Time Access, then start a set again.
How do I keep my music playing?
Settings → App exceptions, then add Spotify, Apple Music, or whatever you listen to. Anything on that list stays usable while everything else is locked. The list sticks around, so you only set it once.
How do I get my phone back mid-workout?
Your phone comes back on its own the moment you tap DONE on a set — that's the whole idea, apps are yours through the rest window and lock again at 0:00. If you need out entirely, END the workout on the session screen. There's deliberately no button that unlocks the phone while a set is still running.
Does LiftLock block everything, the whole workout?
No. It locks during sets and hands the phone back during rest. Most blockers take the whole session on a schedule; LiftLock locks against your actual sets instead.
Can't I just quit the app to get around it?
No — the block is held by iOS Screen Time, not by LiftLock being open. Closing or swiping the app away doesn't lift it, and the re-lock at 0:00 still fires. Ending the workout is the deliberate way out.
Does it see what apps I use?
No. LiftLock only tells iOS when to raise and drop the block. It never receives your app usage — not which apps, not when, not for how long. See the privacy policy.
Account and data
Do I need an account?
No. The app works fully offline and without signing in. Sign in with Apple is optional, and only exists so your workouts and stats can follow you to a new phone.
How do I move my data to a new phone?
Sign in with Apple on both phones — Settings → Account. Your plans and history restore automatically on the new one.
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Delete backup wipes everything about you from the server and signs you out. Deleting the app removes what's on the phone.
How do I turn off Screen Time access?
iOS Settings → Screen Time → Apps with Screen Time Access → LiftLock. Revoking it stops all blocking; the rest of the app keeps working.
Requirements
LiftLock needs an iPhone running iOS 17 or later, with Screen Time access granted. Screen Time blocking is an iPhone feature, so there's no iPad or Apple Watch version yet.
